Alexander Technique

Individual sessions.

Individual sessions  are the best way to learn.  If you are thinking of learning to use the technique as a non-pharmaceutical, non- invasive form of therapy, individual sessions would be the optimal way to begin working.  Regardless, of intent to take sessions,  individual sessions can be tailored to your specific needs and wants. It allows us to work through things as and when they come up for you. Most studies use 24 weekly sessions.  However this is a suggestion and may take less or more time depending on the individual.

Group classes.

Group classes are a great way to continue working with the technique. There are several learning opportunities:

Beginner’s Guide to the Alexander Technique:

The Beginners guide to the Alexander Technique is a great course if you have no experience. Over 8 weekly sessions you will be introduced to the basics. Specifically we will look at the basic principles and learn how to apply them while working with the Classic Procedures.  Classes are small, interactive, thoughtful and provide time to explore the principles in a given activity.

Group Class - Playing with Poise:

If you have taken Alexander work before, and feel comfortable with your level of knowledge, the group classes are a great place to continue refining your skills.  Like the beginner’s guide, classes are small, interactive, thoughtful and provide time to explore the principles of the work.  We tend to look at one classic procedure and over several weeks investigate how we can use that procedure for more fine tuned research and personal investigation.

Playing with Poise

Alexander work looks at movement in a way that truly units the mind body connection. It is the ultimate mindful practice. In playing with poise we practice going up, stopping, recognizing force of habit and faulty sensory awareness and much more.

Teacher Training

This is an intense and unique learning experience that builds on and develops this skill set. Training is 1600 hours over three years.  Please email me for further details.

Pilates

The Pilates method of body conditioning is a unique, proven system of exercises developed to preserve and promote the integrity of the spine.

These classes use the principles of the Alexander technique to turn up the volume on the body mind engagement. This allows for greater freedom to move, better breathing coordination, and to promote and preserve the spine and its working relationship with the whole body.

Yin Yoga

Yin Yoga is a very slow paced yoga practice. Over a 1 hour period we may share 9 poses each being held for roughly 2 - 6 minutes. Classes are best performed before other activities or at the beginning of the day to avoid Injury. It is not similar to or like restorative yoga, as you are actively engaging. In these classes we explore the principles of psycho-physical unity using the time to find balance and coordination  in each asana.

FITNESS

We have fun  getting fit in these sessions. For 30 minutes to 1 hour, we get sweaty, and tired and get a good nights sleep. Exercise forms used are High Intensity Interval Training, or HIIT and Barre classes. You will need weights. You can Drop in for one class or purchase a monthly pass.
