Jennifer Sielicki has maintained an Alexander practice for many years both academically and through a private teaching practice. Her first introduction to the Alexander technique was through professional development in business and finance. While working in banking, Jennifer studied Business, Finance Organization and Psychology. After completing her undergraduate studies she was inspired to continue on this journey in Higher education. During a College tour she attended an open house demonstration of the Alexander technique. This demonstration proved to be transformative, reshaping both her vision and vocation.
Jennifer earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree with Honors in Performing Arts from De Montfort University in Leicester UK. At that time, the program was uniquely interdisciplinary, with a small cohort of 88 students studying music, dance, theater and arts administration. Majoring in Dance, the course focused intensly on the Alexander technique, exploring it’s application to technical ability, creative innovation and performance development. Further, Jennifer received an MA from the European Dance Development Center (EDDC) in Arnhem Netherlands, where she studied at both their Dutch and German campuses before relocating to New York City in the USA.
In 2003, Jennifer graduated from the Institute for Research and Development in the Alexander technique (IRDEAT) NYC. During her training and for several years after graduating, Jennifer had the honor of assisting Ann Matthews on the graduate acting program at NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts. She also served as a regular assistant on the IREADT teacher training course until 2006 when IRDEAT shuttered its doors. Parallel to this Jennifer assisted on the teacher training course at the American Center for the Alexander technique ACAT from 2003-2009.
Jennifer was recently elected as Secretary, to the Board of Directors for the American Society for the Alexander Technique (AmSAT). AmSAT is the largest professional organization supporting Alexander technique teachers in the USA. AmSAT develops and maintains professional standards and expectations for teacher training, professional code of conduct and professional develop. Jennifer also volunteers to Chair the Continuing Education Committee curating professional development programs for AmSAT’s teaching community.
