The Alexander Technique is a method of body awareness and movement that teaches individuals how to reduce tension and improve posture, leading to greater ease and efficiency in everyday activities. The technique focuses on the way you use our body and how unconscious habits can contribute to discomfort, pain, and poor posture. By learning to recognize and change these habits, practitioners can prevent or alleviate a wide range of physical issues, including back pain, neck tension, and stress-related conditions. At its core, the Alexander Technique is about cultivating awareness and making conscious choices about how we move and hold ourselves.
In an Alexander Technique lesson, students are guided to explore how they use their bodies in everyday tasks, such as sitting, standing, walking, or even speaking. The teacher helps the student recognize harmful patterns of tension and offers gentle hands-on guidance or verbal instructions to help them discover more efficient, natural ways of moving. Central to the technique is "inhibition" - the ability to pause and stop habitual movements or reactions. This pause allows the body to respond with more ease, encouraging better alignment and a more balanced, coordinated use of muscles. The process is gradual, encouraging long-term changes rather than immediate fixes.
While the Alexander Technique can be beneficial for individuals with specific physical issues, its benefits go beyond injury prevention. It encourages a deep sense of awareness and mindfulness, fostering a connection between mind and body that enhances overall well-being. Whether you're an athlete seeking improved performance, a musician looking to reduce tension while playing, or someone simply wanting to move through life with more comfort and ease, the Alexander Technique offers valuable tools for enhancing physical and mental health. With regular practice, individuals often experience less pain, greater flexibility, improved posture, and a more relaxed, centered way of being in the world.

This Alexander Technique workshop focuses on breathing and teaching participants how to develop more efficient and conscious breathing patterns by integrating body awareness and alignment. Through gentle guidance, students learn how to recognize over tension in the neck, shoulders and torso, which restrict the natural flow of the breath. This workshop emphasizes mindful awareness and teaches how to use this mindful awareness to recognize habitual movement patterns and their impact on the breath, helping individuals develop a more relaxed, deeper, and more effortless breath, ultimately promoting greater ease and vitality in activities.

Vision is an integral and important part of our day. The vision system uses at least 1/3 of the brain for sight. What is vision correction? Does our vision really get worse with age? Can we make our sight worse? If that is the case can we make it better? In this exploratory workshop we will be focusing on vision.
